In the years between 1970 and 1992 David was a Member of the Institution of Metallurgists (MIM),
a Member of the Institute of British Foundrymen (MIBF) and a Member of the Institute of Metal Finishing (MIMF).
In 1978 he was granted Chartered Engineer status (C Eng).


David is a Licensed Lay Reader in the Scottish Episcopal Church, Diocese of Argyll and The Isles.
